Secondary Operations

While Cardinal will perform as many operations as possible in one line, the nature of certain parts dictates that some operations be performed post-roll forming. These secondary operations are often conducted using custom machinery, ensuring every project is completed according to Cardinal’s high standards for quality.

Custom Machinery for Secondary Operations

If a part can’t be produced using conventional processes on standard equipment, Cardinal Manufacturing has the capacity to build a wide variety of custom machinery to accommodate customers’ needs, ensuring the part will be produced to exact specifications.

Our In-House Capabilities

If a part requires a secondary operation, we have the capacity to fill your needs and offer many in-house secondary operations, including:

Punching & Forming

Cardinal is equipped with a full range of punching and forming machinery. Our team is able to use this equipment to accommodate unique punching and forming variables, including specifications for large processing orders. As a fabricator that specializes in custom machinery, Cardinal provides our customers with finished products that demonstrate impressive precision.

Countersinking & Counterboring

Cardinal provides customers with countersinking services when a screw is required to be level with the metal surface it is joined to. While we often work with typical countersinking angles, such as 60° and 90°, because we are equipped with custom machinery, Cardinal is able to produce non-standard countersinking angles as well. In addition to countersinking, Cardinal also provides counterboring services. By enlarging the opening within a surface and producing a hole with a flat bottom, counterboring allows screws to remain flush with the metal surface as well.

Tapping

By employing our tapping capabilities, the Cardinal team is able to create threads for non-self-tapping screws. This service is primarily used for joining pieces of sheet metal to each other or connecting them to other assembly pieces.

Polishing, Degreasing, and Toggle Locking

Many of Cardinal’s secondary operations are value adding services. Polishing is one of these services, providing roll formed metal with desirable surface finishes. Degreasing is another surface finishing treatment that removes oil and contaminants from our products. In addition to these services that increase both aesthetic value and functionality, Cardinal also equips ourselves with custom machinery to provide toggle locking services.

Spot Welding

Spot welding, also known as resistance welding, is a precision welding technique that can be used to join large pieces of sheet metal together. Because we employ the use of custom machinery, we are able to maintain an environmentally friendly and cost-effective spot welding process.

Beyond Custom Machinery Solutions

Even if a part requires an outside operation, Cardinal has many solutions to offer. We can coordinate with providers of powder coating, plating and heat treating, as well as many other operations. When you place your project with us, you can be confident of our start-to-finish capability and that customer satisfaction is our first priority.
